Lauren Boebert mocked for opposing comprehensive sex ed after her & her son’s teen pregnancies

Former high school dropout and teen mom Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) is proudly proclaiming her ongoing opposition to comprehensive sex education for children in her home state. Last year, she became a 36-year-old grandmother after the underage girlfriend of her 17-year-old son gave birth to his child.

“I have been known in this state for several years now, even before I ran for office, because I was advocating for our children in schools to get comprehensive sex ed out of our schools,” Boebert recently told Steve Bannon, former advisor to former President Donald Trump, on the right-wing media outlet Real America’s Voice.

Her gamble in switching districts may have paid off.

Unlike abstinence-only sex education, which tells adolescents not to have sex, comprehensive sex education offers an ongoing, age-appropriate curriculum that teaches young people about protecting their overall sexual well-being in different social and sexual relationships. Comprehensive sex ed can also acknowledge the existence of LGBTQ+ identities, something that Republicans and other social conservatives generally oppose in schools.

While speaking at the 2023 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Boebert stated that public school students should be banned from learning about how LGBTQ+ people have sex, without naming any schools that are teaching children the mechanics of gay sex.

“There are schools that are teaching worse than just gender ideology,” she said. “I mean they have comprehensive sex-ed. They’re teaching kids how to have and enjoy sex – and even same-sex sex.”

Boebert said no public school students should be learning these things and that schools that teach it should have their funding cut. She also claimed elementary school students were learning these things, though she offered no proof.

Social media commenters ruthlessly mocked Boebert for her stance, considering she dropped out of high school when she became a teen mom – possibly due to a lack of comprehensive sex education. Others criticized her for providing public sex education by once groping her date in front of kids in a theater — something that was captured on video.

Soon after her interview with Bannon, Boebert won her Republican primary race to be the general election candidate in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District. She is largely expected to win her general election in the heavily red-leaning district.
